Pre-K Graudation
Ok guys, I am sorry it has been awhile; however, we have been extremely busy the last couple of months! We have moved over 100 miles, enrolled in a new school district, and still continued to drive back and forth for Adrian to finish out pre-k with his graduating class (24 total days, but it actually ended up being between 10-11 days). Anyways, my baby, not really a baby anymore has had his first graduation, cap/gown/tassel/and all! He is so ready to begin kindergarten this fall and to be able to ride the bus, I however, do not believe I am as ready as he is. I am sure that I will be a sobbing mess the first day of school just like I was the weeks leading up to his graduation. I will have to tell you guys this story, I did burst out into tears in the middle of Target, because I was attempting to find dress slacks, a button down shirt, and a tie to wear under his gown. A lady looked at me and asked if I was alright, I just replied yes, it is just that my baby is graduating preschool. She laughed and said that she had gone through the same thing. I am actually surprised at how well I maintained my composer throughout the graduation process, I only burst out into tears (and an ugly cry at that) once during the 2 hours we were at the school. Anyways, be prepared for more blogs to start pouring in, now that things are settling down, I plan to back track and post blogs accordingly that I have been stock-piling!

Kindergarten Enrollment!
So today has been a rather hectic day....Well, technically this entire MONTH has been hectic, so today wasn't that drastic of a change... BUT, one major event happened today that brought a lot of us to tears... Kindergarten enrollment for my 5 year old son.... Yes, he is starting on that 13 year journey this fall, and I can't believe it is already upon me.... They even had his potential graduation date on the board.... May 2024... unrealistic at times!
Anyways, Adrian did extremely well... Unlike my fears that he would be shy and reserved, he took off with the teachers and had a blast... He continuously kept walking by the "parents room" and giving my mother, my niece, and myself the cheesiest grin with a big thumbs up!
I was a little upset when I was stuck in a room to fill out paperwork for an hour, and no I am not exaggerating in the slightest, instead of being able to follow him for his testing. I was hoping to get more pictures to help blog and remember the event, but I was able to get a couple.
Overall, he did above average on his testing, and they will gladly accept him into the class of 2024... He came grinning into the room, and said "I did it mommy! I answered all of the questions right, and wrote all of the answer right!" and prior to going with Nurse Birdie, he said "ok, Mommy I'm almost done, I am doing awesome!"... Tears in my eyes to watch my baby boy spreading his wings and loving school... I am going to be a basket case the first day of his kindergarten year... but I have plenty of time to prepare... well that is what I will keep telling myself at least! LOL

Welcome!
So, I am doing this a bit backwards, I have already blogged twice before realizing that I should welcome everyone to my new blog! I am new to this, so it will be an on-going process and growing experience. Anyways, this blog is coming from a single, working mother on motherhood, children, topics regarding children, and a little bit of everything that is going on in my life. Overall, this will be my confessions from the Secret Society of Motherhood.
My name is Nicole, I am 25 years old (almost 26), and I have a 5 year old little boy. I am currently in the process of getting back into school to finish my nursing degree with a minor in Spanish. I am also beginning the tedious process of enrolling my son ino kindergarten (tears welling up as I type those words).
My son, Adrian Alexander, is quite the character, extremely energetic and always on the go. His personality is quirky and off-beat, just like his momma.
This boy definitely keeps me on my toes! One of his current favorite things to play is hide-n-go seek and Billy the Exterminator. Who is this Billy guy you may ask? Well, it is an exterminator from Louisiana who has a TV show dedicated to his business of catching rascals and vermits =). This man has quite the get-up as well, very rocker chic I suppose.
Anyways, Adrian loves chasing around our shih poo Ringo Bingo Dinosaur (yes fully named by Adrian) pretending that he is a poisonous baby black bear. Luckily Ringo is very welcoming to the ruckous.
We definitely enjoy the snow, which is perfect on a day like today seeing as we are getting yet another snow storm in the midwest. We have done a lot of sledding and building of miniature snowmen this season, we even tried out some delicious homemade ice cream with chocolate syrup on top of course!
Anyways, that is a little bit about us, and if you look for a belly-aching good laugh, my life experiences...er blog... will help with that! =)

Thoughts on Physical Education in Schools
The state of Missouri is thinking about doing away with mandated physical education classes in grades kindergarten through 5th grade, and I was asked what my viewpoint was on this topic. Well, I thought that I would blog about it, and see what your opinions on the matter were as well!
I believe that this would be a large setback in the health of our society. The obesity epidemic in this country is already a hot and heated debate. I do believe by not instilling our children with the necessity of exercise, and making it enjoyable will only cause the epidemic to spiral out of control. In today's world an average child's form of exercise on any given day is bowling or playing a round of tennis on the Wii or Xbox Kinnect. In this technology age children would rather be sitting indoors playing on their ds, gameboy, psp, game consoles, or any other given electronic than to be outside. When I was growing up, we would play hide and seek, catch fireflies, play tag, kickball, or ride our bikes for fun. Seeing the shift in the idea of extra cirricular activities greatly negates the need for P.E. in our school systems. Our country is trying to reform healthcare by making it more afforable and readily available for all people; however, by not instilling exercise in our children at a young age and as they are growing up, we are going to see a drastic increase in health issues and problems; from juvenile diabetes, high cholesterol, cardiac problems, breathing problems, and many other health scares that obesity is a cause of. What will this rise in healthcare issues cause? Higher premiums on health insurance, higher costs of prescription medicines due to a higher volume of consumers, and most importantly the mortality age to decline. Our children are our future, and by enabling them to continue to carry out the epidemic that our fast food nation has invented is appalling. Yes, we as parents should enforce our children to participate in forms of exercise, and produce a healthy diet for them to consume; however, there are parents out there that have fallen victim to obesity themselves or just aren't knowledgable in a healthy lifestyle, as well as parents who just dont care. Personally, I despised going to gym class after 6th grade, but now that I look back on it, I wish that it was mandatory all the way through school (including all 4 years of high school). I do think that they could update the class, into a more generation appropriate form, just make it fun and the kids will approve. As for high school students gear it more towards fitness class and strength training, perhaps rotate classes per quarter, for example 1-zumba and pilates 2-jazzercise and yoga 3-strength training and step aerobics 4-sports quarter i.e. kickball, softball, flag football, etc. I personally would have LOVED this type of P.E. class in high school lol.
Anyways, I believe that you guys get my view on this, I personally think that it is a poor decision, while they may think that these children are "too young" to be greatly affected by this decision, they aren't. If the form of exercise isn't instilled at a young age, children will not adhere to it at an older age.
